Made from naturally occurring nutrients, At-Ease works both by increasing calming type hormone secretions and soothing irritated nerves, allowing relief from stress and anxiety. All natural so that it does not test, it is ideal to use at shows, competitions, or events that unsettle the horse. Available in both paste and powder form, At-Ease is easy to administer and cost effective. HOW DOES EACH NUTRIENT WORK? Thiamin (Vitamin B-1) plays an important role in nerve transmission and excitation. Thiamin is also believed to stimulate appetite and assist in the prevention of tying up and regulate nerve function. There does not seem to be any fear of toxicity in horses with thiamin and it is not stored in fatty tissues for later use. Pyridoxine (Vitamin B-6) is an important synergist in the synthesis of amino acids like tryptophan. Although, no dietary requirements for pyridoxine have been established for the horse, deficiencies in other species include reduced growth rate, muscular weakness, anemia, impaired immune function and neurological abnormalities resembling epilepsy. Over supplementation or any occurrence of toxicity with pyridoxine are unknown. Tryptophan is one of 22 amino acids and one of the ten essential amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and the essence of organic life. By analogy, if amino acids were the letters of the alphabet, proteins would be the words in language. Tryptophan is part of the natural synthesis of niacin. As tryptophan intake increases, niacin conversion is decreased. Tryptophan also is a synergist in the hormonal secretion of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that acts as a mild sedative. There are no known side effects in horses from the supplementation of tryptophan. A trace mineral, magnesium is essential for bone development and the activation of many enzymes. Historically, magnesium oxide was given intravenously as an anesthetic agent before the advent of barbiturates and inhalation anesthetics. Symptoms of deficiency are nervousness and hyperactivity. Magnesium relaxes muscle fibers and soothes irritated nerve fibers. Excessive magnesium intake by the horse is not known to be harmful but may interfere with calcium uptake. At-Ease is carefully formulated with this in mind.
