PRODUCT CODE AND NAME: Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L5; 97773, 97774, 97775
DESCRIPTION:Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L5 is for vaccination of healthy cows and heifers prior to breeding as an aid in preventing abortion caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR , bovine herpesvirus type 1) virus; persistently infected calves caused by bovine virus diarrhea (BVD) Types 1 and 2; respiratory disease caused by IBR, BVD Types 1 and 2, parainfluenza (PI) and bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV); and leptospirosis caused by Leptospira canicola, L. grippotyphoas, L. hardjo, L. icterohaemorrhagiae and L Pomona. Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L5 may be administered to pregnant cattle provided they were vaccinated, according to label directions, with BOVI-SHIELD FP 4+LF, BOVI-SHIELD FP 4+VL5, BOVI-SHIELDGOLD FP 5 VL5, PREGGUARD FP 9 or PREGGUARD GOLD FP 10 within the past 12 months. Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L5 may also be administered to calves nursing pregnant cows provided their dams were vaccinated within the past 12 months as described above. Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L5 is freeze-dried preparation of modified live virus (MLV) strains of IBR, BVD (Types 1 and 2), PI and BRSV viruses, plus a liquid bacterin containing the 5 Leptospira serovars identified above. The liquid bacterin is used to rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine. Viral antigens are propagated on an established cell line.
ADVANTAGES: Contains both BVDV type 1 and 2 to provide optimum protection against BVDV infection. Protection against BVDV type 1 or 2 fetal infection interrupts the cycle of in utero infection and reduces birth of persistently infected calves that perpetuate disease in the herd. The only vaccine shown to protect against IBR virus abortions and persistent infection by BVDV types 1 and 2. Shown to be safe when given to pregnant cows or calves nursing pregnant cows provided they were vaccinated with the past 12 months with one of the Bovi-Shield FP or PregGuard FP vaccines. Achieved excellent protection against severe BVDV type 2 intranasal challenge not demonstrated by any other vaccine manufacturer. Controls viremia and provides protection against persistent infection. Rigorous safety studies showed a 1,000-fold dose of the BVDV type 2 strain in Bovi-Shield Gold FP 5 L 5 resulted in no viral shedding, fever, clinical illness, immunosuppression or other side effects. Provides protection against 4 of the most common bovine viral respiratory and reproductive diseases, including BVD caused by BVDV types 1 and 2, IBR, PI and BRSV.
DIRECTIONS: General Directions: Vaccination of healthy cattle is recommended. Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the liquid bacterin provided, shake well and administer 2 mL intramuscularly. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, this product should be administered in the muscular region of the neck.Primary Vaccination: Administer a single 2 mL dose to healthy cattle, followed by a second dose of Bovi-Shield BRSV 3-4 weeks later to provide primary immunization against BRSV infection.
