PRODUCT CODE AND NAME: Bovi-Shield BRSV, Bovi-Shield IBR; 74623, 74624
DESCRIPTION: These Bovi-Shield vaccines contain highly immunogenic, modified live virus (MLV) agents in the combinations indicated above for protection against several common respiratory diseases of cattle. The MLV agents are propagated on established cell lines and packaged in multi-dose vials in freeze-dried form to maintain stability. Bovi-Shield vaccines are provided with a sterile diluent used to rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine, which is administered in a 2 mL intramuscular dose.
ADVANTAGES: Bovi-Shield BRSV provides proven MLV protection against respiratory disease caused by bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). Bovi-Shield IBR provides proven MLV protection against respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus. The MLV strain of IBR virus in Bovi-Shield vaccines stimulates circulating antibodies and cellular immunity, a dual immune response that optimizes protection by killing IBR virus-infected cells and exposing them to circulating antibodies. The BRSV component provides protection against respiratory disease of increased severity in cases of concurrent infection with other respiratory viruses, Haemophilus somnus or Pasteurella. Unlike some MLV vaccines, there is no age restriction on use of Bovi-Shield vaccines. Bovi-Shield MLV strains prime the cellular and humoral immune system of susceptible calves, giving them a healthy start to realize full genetic potential. The BRSV component of Bovi-Shield has been proven safe in pregnant cows in all trimesters of pregnancy.
DIRECTIONS: General Directions: Vaccine is administered in a 2 mL dose given intramuscularly. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, vaccine should be administered in the muscular region of the neck.Primary Vaccinations: Bovi-Shield BRSV: Healthy cattle should receive 2 doses administered 3-4 weeks apart. To avoid possible maternal antibody interference with active immunization, calves vaccinated before the age of 6 months should be revaccinated after 6 months of age. Bovi-Shield IBR: Administer a single 2 mL dose. To provide primary immunization against BRSV, Bovi-Shield BRSV should be administered as a second dose 3.4 weeks later.Revaccination: Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.
